This semester I am in a general practicum class for one credit with Professor Baker in the Psychology department. I had to the option to choose where I wanted to do my forty hours of field hours.

The House of Samuel is a Christian based adoption, foster care and counseling center in Cambridge, Ohio. I have had the opportunity to do plenty of things within this organization so far. It is a very hands on opportunity and a great learning experience. I have only been within the facility for about four weeks now and I have already learned so much.

1. Nearly 40,000 infants are placed each year
2. At least 20,000 teenagers “age out” of the system a year
3. Average age of a child is 10
4. The number of children in the system per day averages around 420,000 (U.S)
5. Close to 40% of aged out foster children end up homeless afterwards
